It is very normal for there to be a gap of time between your CT simulation and the start of your radiation treatments.

What Your Team Is Doing Behind the Scenes

After your CT simulation, an entire team begins working on your treatment plan.

This includes:

• your radiation oncologist
• a medical dosimetrist
• a medical physicist

Each of these team members plays a specific role in creating a safe and effective plan for you.

How Your Treatment Plan Is Created

Your radiation oncologist will begin by reviewing your CT simulation images in detail.

They will:

• identify the exact tissues they want to treat
• define the boundaries of that treatment area
• determine what surrounding structures need to be avoided

From there, the medical dosimetrist designs a treatment plan based on those instructions.

This plan determines:

• exactly how the radiation will be delivered
• the exact angles of the treatment beam
• how the prescribed radiation dose will be distributed within the desired area

How Safety Is Verified

Once a treatment plan is created, it is carefully reviewed and tested.

The medical physicist plays a key role in this part of the process.

They ensure that:

• the plan design is accurate and appropriate
• the dose is calculated correctly
• the treatment can be delivered safely

There are multiple checks in place before treatment ever reaches our patients.
